L'association :
Nous avons décidé de nous engager auprès de Solidarités International qui est une association d'aide d'urgence : boire, manger et s'abriter sont ses maîtres mots. Anodins pour certains, ces verbes ne le sont pas pour plus d'un milliard d'hommes, de femmes et d'enfants sur Terre. L'eau, à l'origine de la vie, est aussi source de conflits, maladies et morts. En effet l'eau tue 8 millions de personnes par an (soit une toutes les 4 secondes). Savez-vous aussi que la diarrhée qui est une maladie hydrique tue autant que le SIDA (1,6 millions de morts par an)? C'est pourquoi nous avons tenté, à notre échelle, d'apporter notre goutte d'eau à Solidarités qui est particulièrement impliquée dans les problèmes liés à l'eau. Après avoir organisé la Journée Mondiale de l'Eau à Clermont-Ferrand (530 euros récoltés) puis un concert pour les sinistrés de Haïti (367 euros récoltés), nous avons effectué ce voyage (909 euros collectés).
Le voyage :
Nous avons parcouru l'île de La Réunion à pied en essayant de promouvoir les actions de Solidarités International et de sensibiliser les gens que nous avons rencontrés sur les problèmes liés à l'eau. Solidarités International est une association d'aide d'urgence : boire, manger et s'abriter sont ses maîtres mots. Elle est plus particulièrement impliquée dans les problèmes hydriques. Nous avions fait avant notre départ une campagne de parrainage de nos km et des plus hauts sommets de l'île. C'est une façon de rendre le don plus ludique, les donneurs ayant la possibilité de suivre notre périple sur reunion2010.unblog.fr. Nous avions planifié 420 km de marche mais le 2 et le 0 ont été inversés! Nous avons fait 402km. Nous avions emporté dans notre sac à dos des dépliants, revues, autocollants et badges que nous avons distribués. Sur chacun de nos sacs à dos il y avait un message : "Chaque jour 22 000 personnes meurent d'une maladie hydrique" et "900 millions de personnes sans accès à l'eau potable". C'est ainsi que nous avons attiré l'attention des marcheurs. Nous avons aussi encouragé les randonneurs à signer la pétition de l'association "Ensemble pour l'accès à l'eau potable pour tous". Des marcheurs ont soutenu les actions de Solidarités en apportant leur aide financière.

Cet été, nous aurons la chance de traverser l’île de la Réunion à pied. Nous marcherons pour notre plaisir pendant que d’autres parcourent de nombreux kilomètres chaque jour pour aller chercher de l’eau. C’est pourquoi nos 420 km à travers l’île seront dédiés aux plus démunis. Concrètement chaque journée de marche verra mourir 22 000 personnes à cause d'une maladie hydrique. Nous lançons donc une campagne de parrainage de nos kilomètres, 1euro/km à l’exception des huit sommets les plus importants. De plus, nous espérons récolter des dons sur place et sensibiliser les personnes que nous rencontrerons sur notre route.
A partir de 40 km parrainés (soit 10 euros de donation si vous êtes imposable) nous nous engageons à vous envoyer une carte postale de l'île de la Réunion. Avec 40 euros vous offrez un filtre à sable à une famille de 5 personnes. Elles pourront ainsi filtrer chaque jour l'eau nécessaire à leur survie. The association:
We decided to get involved with Solidarités International which is an association providing emergency assistance: eat, drink and shelter are its key words. Trivial for some, these verbs are not for more than a billion men, women and children on Earth. The water, origin of life, is also a source of conflicts, diseases and deaths. Indeed water kills 8 million people per year (one every 4 seconds). Do you know also that diarrhea, which is a waterborne disease, kills as many as AIDS (1,6 million deaths per year)? So we tried to lend a hand to Solidarités International which is particularly involved in issues related to water. After we organized the World Water Day in Clermont-Ferrand (530 euros collected), then a concert for Haïti survivors (367 euros collected), we could take this trip (909 euros collected).

Before we began our trip we had done a sponsorship campaign of our kilometers and the highest peaks of the island. It was a way to make the donation more fun. The donors had the opportunity to follow our journey on reunion2010.unblog.fr. We had planned 420 km of walking but the 2 and 0 have been reversed. We did 402 km. We carried in our backpack flyers, magazines, stickers and badges that we distributed. On each of our backpacks, there was a message: "Everyday 22 000 people die because a waterborne disease" and "900 million people without access to drinking water". Thus we caught the attention of walkers. We also encouraged walkers to sign the petition of the association "Together for access to drinking water for everyone". Some walkers supported the actions of Solidarités by providing financial assistance. A big thank you to them.

We have shown that it's easily possible to combine personal pleasure (travel and hiking) and support for humanitarian operations. A big thank you to all those (on paths or not) who were understanding of our message and who have financially supported the actions of Solidarity International.
